MUSC Hoops for Hope 3-ON-3 Tournament Rules
All seedings are chosen at random
Players must not be current or former NCAA or professional basketball players. Players and teams must be preregistered
prior to registration closing date. Individuals must play for only one team. Teams may be co-ed. Teams may consist of 3 or 4 players. All players must be in attendance for each game. Players will not be allowed to miss early games and play in later games.
Games will be played to 16 and teams must win by 2 points, or the first team to reach 21 will be declared the
winner. However, games will be played to the maximum of 15 minutes with the leading team declared the
winner at the 15 minute mark. Each team will be given one 60 second timeout per game. Teams must consist of
at least 3 players, and as many as 4, or the team forfeits.
All baskets made inside the 3 point line, which is also the take-back line, will be scored as 1 point. Offense will
retain possession after each score. Baskets made behind the 3 point line will be scored as 2 points. Tournament
officials reserve the right to add 1 point to the opposing team in the event that a flagrant foul occurs.
A coin flip will be used to determine which team will begin with the ball behind the take-back line. Games will
be played in a “make it, take it” format. A made basket retains possession for the scoring team. Scoring team
must check the ball to opposing player behind the take-back line after each made basket.
Following a missed basket or a steal, the ball must be taken back behind the take-back line. Ball does not need
to be checked.
All fouls will be played out of bounds at the top of the court, behind the take-back line. Out of bounds balls will
also be played at the top of the court, behind the take-back line, and must be checked.
Fouls will be called at the discretion of the referee. Players who accumulate 3 personal fouls throughout the
game will foul out. The offensive team will retain possession if they are fouled. Foul shots will not be taken.
Tournament officials reserve the right to add 1 point to the opposing team in the event that a flagrant foul
Players can substitute during any dead ball situation, but must be summoned by the referee.
Balls and jerseys will be provided by the tournament officials. Personal balls will not be permitted.
